PulsePoint is a free, county-supported program that empowers residents to help save lives during cardiac emergencies. Through the PulsePoint mobile app, CPR-trained community members are alerted when someone nearby may need immediate assistance. The program also supports neighborhoods that maintain Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
What is PulsePoint?
PulsePoint strengthens the “chain of survival” by:
- Alerting CPR-trained residents when a nearby cardiac arrest is reported to 9-1-1.
- Showing the location of the nearest AEDs through the app.
- Connecting neighbors and first responders in those critical first minutes before EMS arrives.
There are two key components:
- PulsePoint Respond – CPR-trained individuals receive alerts to nearby emergencies.
- PulsePoint AED – Maps community AED locations so responders can find them quickly.

How can my neighborhood participate?
Participation is simple and free:
- Residents download the PulsePoint Respond app and opt in as responders to receive alerts in public locations.
- Residents who join the program as Registered Community Responders will also receive notifications in residential areas after attending one of the orientation meetings.
- Communities can register their AEDs in the PulsePoint AED Registry.
Does the County provide support for AEDs?
Yes! Sumter County offers Community AED Support for neighborhoods that place AEDs on public property, unlocked and accessible at all times. Qualified communities receive:
- Free replacement pads (after use or expiration).
- Outdoor AED cabinet and solar light provided by the County for installation.
- Replacement AED (Physio-Control Lifepak CR2) if a community AED reaches the end of life or is stolen (for a qualifying program in place for at least 4 years).
This ensures AEDs are always ready and available when needed most.
When is the orientation, and do I need to register?
Orientation is open to anyone interested in becoming a Registered Community Responder:
- When: 1st and 3rd Monday of each month (excluding County holidays)
- Time: 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
- Where: Sheriff William “Bill” Farmer Public Safety Center, 7361 Powell Road, Wildwood (behind the Service Center with the copper dome).
- Registration: Not required — just show up!
